Food & Farm Summer Fellowship opportunity (Posted May 21st, 2024)
A note from Hidden Springs Family Ranch in Butte Valley, near Butte College. Recently, we received funding from the California Department of Agriculture to offer a paid summer fellowship for students entering 9th-12th grades. Our project has been endorsed by Assembly Member James Gallagher, County Supervisor Doug Teeter, and The Center for Regenerative Agriculture at Chico State University (see attachments).
During the Food and Farm Summer Fellowship, students will explore climate and food justice while learning about regenerative agriculture through our guest speaker series and hands-on farming experiences. Fellows will build community and develop their leadership skills as they wonder about their relationship to land and neighbor while growing food to donate to the Chico Housing Action Team.
We are just now bringing this to your attention due to a delay in funding from the state; however, we are happy to share that the Food and Farm Summer Fellowship application is now open and will remain active through the end of May. Students receive a $1300 stipend for participation in the seventy-hour fellowship and priority is given to students who are experiencing or have experienced food insecurity or financial hardships.
