Frequently Asked Questions

 

General information:

  • Who will be my child's counselor?
Counselors are assigned to students depending on their last names:
Last names starting with A - K are assigned to Sheila Snyder (ssnyer@chicousd.org) (530) 895 - 4110 x251
Last names starting with L - Z are assigned to Gabby Homesley (ghomesley@chicousd.org) (530) 895 - 4110 x252

  • What are the school hours?
School begins every week day at 8:05 am and ends at 2:45 pm. 
Students must be in their seat when the bell rings at 8:05 to avoid being marked tardy.
Wednesdays are late start, so school will begin at 9:05 and end at 2:45
 
Campus supervision begins at 7:30 a.m.
 
Tardy students must stop at the Attendance Office for a tardy slip before going to class.
 
  • When is lunchtime?
6th grade lunch is 11:25 - 12:00 except Wednesday when it is at 11:40  - 12:15
7th and 8th grade lunch is at 12:20 - 12:55 except Wednesday when it is at 12:30 - 1:05
 

Medical information:

  • My child needs to take medication daily. How will you make sure my child will receive it?
All medications must be prescribed by a doctor and have documentation telling how much the student must take and how often they should take it. The same policy applies to over-the-counter medicines. You can pick up an "Authorization to Administer Medication" form from the health aide, Sonja Siri (ssiri@chicousd.org) in the main office, or you can download and print one out by clicking HERE. Please bring your completed form to Sonja.   
 
  • If my child was sick today, can they come to school tomorrow?
 
We know how much your child will enjoy coming to school and never want to miss a day, however, in the event that your child becomes sick, please let the school know by either calling or e-mailing the attendance secretary, Claudia Robbins (crobbins@chicousd.org) (530) 895 - 4115
 
Please, keep your child home if he or she is:
  • Vomiting and/or has had diarrhea (in the last 24 hours)
  • Has an undiagnosed or untreated rash (especially with a fever)
  • Has head lice (must be treated and checked by Health Office before returning to school)
  • Has an eye infection (thick mucus or pus draining from the eye)
  • Has a sore throat (with a fever or swollen glands)
  • Has a fever (temperature of 100° or more) 
 
  • What is the procedure for appointments during the school day?
When your child has a doctor's appointment at the beginning or in the middle of the school day, please bring him or her to school before or after the appointment. Schools receive full funding even if a student attends for part of the day. It is this funding that provides the needed books, supplies, curriculum, and other necessities for your child's education.  .
 

Online ordering:

  • How do I order student store items online with my credit card?
Yes! The student store page is under the "Parents" drop-down menu at the top. Click here to go directly to the MJHS Student Store page. You will need to set up your account the first time ordering. Please follow the instructions on the Student Store page.
 
  • How do I receive the items I ordered online?
Items from the student store can be picked up either by your child or by you in the main office during Diana Burdine's work hours. Diana's hours are listed on the store page and posted on her office door in the MJHS main office.
 
  • When will the price for the yearbook increase to $45.00?
When we come back from Winter Break.
 
  • Am I required to purchase a PE uniform for my child?
No, it's not required. Your child, however, must change into some type of PE uniform during PE. You can purchase shorts and T-shirts on your own if you choose. The clothes should match our school colors and cannot have a company logo on them (such as Nike). Our PE shorts are black and our PE T-shirts are green. 
 
  • When I order PE clothes online, it doesn't allow me to pick the size. Why is that?
PE clothes are distributed to your child during their PE class. The PE teachers will size the student. If you are not satisfied with the size given, your child needs to return them the next day to his/her PE Teacher so they can exchange them for a better size. Once the student's name is written on the PE clothes we cannot exchange or accept a return for them.
