Sunday Message to Families 11/3/24
Good evening Marsh Jr. High School families. This is Mrs. Kamph, Ms. Mari, Ms. Boyd, and Mr. Osak with your Sunday evening message.
Academics:
Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days of school a year, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. If you are struggling to get your Gator to school, please reach out to Edgar Sandoval, our Marsh TCM in the main office.
Is your Gator in need of academic support? Do they need help completing assignments to raise their grades? The Library Drop in Homework Program is open Monday - Thursday 3 - 4PM. All Marsh Gators are welcome to attend.
Behaviors:
All students at Marsh have now participated in the anti-bully presentation with Mrs. Kamph and Mrs. De Luna. Students were engaged in meaningful conversations about creating a positive culture on the Marsh campus.
The safety of our Gators is extremely important to us. Parents, we ask that you talk with your Gators about bike and scooter safety. Here are some tips to keep them safe: wear a helmet and visible bright clothing, follow the laws of traffic and ride in a straight predictable line, signaling turns when needed, lookout for obstacles and be sure to ride in a group when possible.
Does your Gator have something missing? Please have them check the Lost and Found in the Marsh MPR this week as all items will be donated at the end of next week.
Social Emotional:
Developing a sense of personal identity is a crucial part of adolescence, and being involved in extracurricular activities can allow teenagers to “try on” different roles and help them figure out what their individual interests and talents are. In addition, teens who participate in extracurricular activities tend to have higher grades, better attendance, and improved attitudes toward learning. This Thursday, Leadership will be hosting “Club Day on the Green”. This is a great opportunity to see what clubs are available and get involved in campus activities.
Our focus for the month of November is empathy. Empathy is the ability to sense other people's emotions, as well as the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling. We encourage you to have conversations at home. We will also be challenging our students to do one kind act each day.
Congratulations to Mrs. Hodges advisory class for winning our campus wide canned food drive competition. Mrs. Hodge's advisory class brought in over 100 cans! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped support this cause. We ended up filling the entire bin in the office for the Salvation Army.
